Friday Five #61

Happy Friday! We made it! I'm actually off today & heading to the Finger Lakes for a girls weekend. I'm ready for a little getaway and I know we're going to have a blast! What are you up to this weekend?

I am definitely behind in responding to comments (but I'm working on it!) - so in the meantime, thank you to everyone who said prayers or sent good vibes to Mr. Sass' goddaughter. Everything went as well as it could have & she (+ her parents) are back home! Still a ways to go recovery wise, but everything is moving in the right direction, and no reason to believe they won't stay that way. :)

one // WE FOUND OUR WEDDING CAKE! Mr. Sass & I are not detail people. In general we're both much better big picture thinkers, so boom, venue, caterer, DJ, photographer - that stuff was easy peasy to pick & book. But we're having trouble with the details. Picking cake is seriously the hardest thing we've done so far. We tried 5 bakeries & didn't like ANY of them. Prices seemed high, cake was meh. We thought we might have to settle for something that was only okay, until we found these bad boys. The chocolate on chocolate is my favorite, but I didn't try a bad one. Where are they from? Sam's Club.

two // 3 days into March & plans are trying to derail me from getting in all my HM training workouts. Ran a wicked fast 3 tempo miles on Thursday morning.

three // And was back at North Park for my 7 mile long run this morning...before heading north to drink wine.

four // Guys. Night shift is not going well. At least not in my mind. I try to go to bed at 10PM, right when Mr. Sass is waking up, taking a shower & getting dressed for work. The other night, he was trying to nap, all of a sudden he gets up when he decided the nap wasn't working, only to find me painting my toenails & watching This Is Us on On Demand. Two things better done alone. #Awkward. Another night I totally lost my shit at 1025PM because I was cranky and wanted to be asleep but instead all the lights were on while he was getting ready. I need to try to be a grownup and pull it together. But it's hard.

five // Funnies...

Yeah...so you're gonna wanna drive until you see a Chipotle, make the first right after that. You'll pass two McDonalds & a Dairy Queen, then make a left, right at the corner by the Papa John's. If you hit Arby's you've gone too far.

Or - in my Mom's world...you're gonna drive 'til you see that house with the girl you used to be friends with, with the blonde hair, turn right there. Then at the little bakery where we tried their chocolate chip cookies that weren't very good you'll take the next left. If you hit the house with the really small kitchen that we went and saw once when it was for sale, you've gone too far.

What are you up to this weekend?

    1. Haha right!? I do like GPS, but wish instead of saying in 900 feet make a left, it would be like yo, next BIG street, yeah, the one with the stoplight, make a left. Haha.

  3. Sorry about night shift, that sounds really tough :( But yay on the cake! That looks delicious and pretty. No point in settling for cake that doesn't taste good.

  4. I'm going to make it a goal to use the word shamamlamadingdong in a sentence a few times this weekend ;)
Sam's Club - that's AWESOME!!!! I went to a wedding recently where the wedding cake was tilted & leaning... it was beautiful - just was leaning. The mother of the Bride said, "We dont care - we paid $60.00 for it at Sam's Club" :) I thought that was the most genius thing I've ever heard of in my life. They had sheet cakes they served to the guests - they just used that to cut for pictures & for the bride & Groom only. Cakes are RIDICULOUSSSSSS ... its just cake! I can see some of these ornate ones being a little more pricey but like everything wedding, the price gets SO JACKED UP!

    1. My mom spent a few years working in a bakery decorating wedding cakes. And they were delicious and beautiful, and EXPENSIVE. And maybe I would have forked over the money for THAT cake, since it was so damn good, but I just think how I can't remember the cake at a single wedding I've been to. And that certainly won't be what I remember in 6 months, or 6 yeas, so why spend all that money.

  5. Uh finding a schedule or routine for the night shift must be so hard I can't even imagine! And cake testing was my favorite part of wedding planning, I think we tasted at three different places before actually picking one.

    1. So far WINE tasting has been my favorite part. We get to bring our own booze so I've been tasting lots of different wines to make sure we end up with good ones. A tough job, but SOMEONE has to do it.

  7. I'm the same way with directions...as in I have NO sense of them!! Yay for finding the cake!! Hubby and I were so lucky - his Aunt made our cake, otherwise we would have been the same way. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

    1. I would love to have my Mom make my cake. She is seriously so good at it. Both the baking & the decorating. Figure it's just a little much seeing as how she is the mother of the bride and all.

  8. Chocolate on chocolate = <3 woohoo for finding THE cake!

And oh my goodness YES to directions. The only reason I know where east is because I live in Australia and I know beaches = east 😂

    1. OMG - I WISH it was that simple here. We have 28N which runs perpendicular to another highway 279N. Which like, of course I have no idea what direction I need to be going, by your very nature, you BOTH can't head north if you're perpendicular. AHHH.
