You know those breakups that you're not really upset about because they were a long time coming? Yeah. The ones where you're both just sort of done with the relationship, but it's nice to not be alone sometimes, so you just stay together? I had finally ended one of those a few months prior & re-entered the world of Internet dating.
I went on a terrible date. I already had one set for drinks with the now BF later in the week. The day came & I told my roommate I wanted to cancel. She told me I couldn't, but that she would call a half hour in - to save me if I needed. She was true to her word, but I didn't need saving.
He quoted Step Brothers, I finished the quote & we high-fived. He told me he had a nice time and he texted me later to ask me out again. It was a whole week before we did. He took me to one of my favorite restaurants, without ever knowing I loved it. And on our third date we went hiking - at Ohiopyle. :)
We've traveled. To PA, KY, WV, OH, MI, VA, NY, New Zealand & Europe is in the works.
We've hiked ALL the miles.
We've been happy, we've been hangry (okay, so this one's mostly me), but still - hanger does not merely affect one person. We've made funny faces that I don't post to the Internet because I know you'd kill me ;) P.S. Don't kill me.
We have serious talks - but then we also talk about how we're probably pretty much the weirdest people ever.
You hate when I leave wet clothes on the bathroom floor & I hate when you leave all your dresser drawers open 1/2 an inch, because WHYYYY.
But, I love you, and you are my person. I'm excited to keep hiking, keep adventuring, keep being silly and keep hoping you'll learn to close your dresser drawers. Cheers to TWO YEARS!
How did you and your significant other meet?
How long have you been together?
Any good first date stories?
Linking up with Amanda.
Aww... this is so sweet :) Happy anniversary! Mike and I met at a party where I think I was just trying to ask him directions to get somewhere. That was about 11 years ago.
ReplyDelete11 years!? WOW. Congrats. I love hearing all the random ways people ended up together.
DeleteThis is SO cute. #givesmehope. Happy Anniv you guys!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks. But seriously, I would like to thank the Internet, for helping me make friends & find love. ;)
DeleteHappy Anniversary! You two seem perfect together. And all your traveling -- jealous!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah!
DeleteAw, happy anniversary! Good thing you went on that date. I met my husband on MyFitnessPal. He's from CA but he moved to NY after we met.
ReplyDeleteMFP!? Now that's one I haven't heard before. Have you posted the story? I'd be so curious to read!
DeleteThis is just the cutest.
ReplyDeleteLove you had the friend ready with the rescue call :)
& that Step Brothers is a uniting force for you two. That's just adorable!
The rescue call is totally a thing, and something I wish I had had on some of the terrible dates I went on.
DeleteTHIS IS THE CUTEST, SWEETEST THING EVER!! Happy anniversary! That's an impressive amount of traveling, that's awesome! Paul and I met sophomore year at a random Sunday-fun day party at my roommate's softball team's house. It's funny- he had to ask me for my number twice because the first time he gave me his phone to put my number in, I thought he was kidding. So I didn't want to fall for a dumb joke haha. Turns out he had to ask again because he noticed I didn't put it in there:) haha.
ReplyDeleteAwww. That's adorable. Glad he double checked!
DeleteAww, this is so sweet. I am so glad you went on that date ;)
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I met in College (when I was an exchange student at his school) and we just happened to cross path on campus and he decided to introduce himself. I mean, how random. Well, we've been together for 15 years now (Oct, 5) and he's the reason why I moved to the US permanently :)
Good for him. What a bold thing to randomly introduce yourself to someone, but how great that he did!
DeleteAww! Happy Anniversary! That is so sweet! Cheers to more hiking and adventuring to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ana!
DeleteI love celebrating first date anniversary's! I met my husband on my first day at my new job as a teacher and it was seriously love at first sight. Cheers to many more adventures and good times together!
ReplyDeleteIt's a date I figure we'll celebrate forever, even when we're married.
Deletejessie being so caaautie and sentimental....saaay whaaaaat? i love this post and you. i'm so happy you found your person. :) and i'm even happier i got to meet him too!! seeing you at Aly's wedding just makes me miss you more. call me if you guys come home for a visit! miss and love you. love, your favorite gremlin of a roommate
ReplyDeleteDeeeena! Haha, I couldn't resist being all mushy. This one is a keeper. :)
DeleteAwww how sweet! Congrats on two years. Isn't it funny to think how the things that change our lives are always the ones we want to cancel or blow off?
ReplyDeleteKevin and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary in October. It really is crazy how such a long time can feel like no time at all.
5 years!? That's crazy - good for you! It really is crazy the things that change our lives. This wasn't the one I would have bet on.
Deleteawwwwwwwwww this is the cutest! yay for being weird. have you read that quote? 'We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love' - a lot of people attribute it to Dr Suess but there's no proof he said it lol, but who cares, the quote is still lovely.
ReplyDeleteWHY with the 1/2 open drawers though?!
happy anniversary, y'all are the cutest.
KC and I celebrated 6 years of dating in June (though we broke up for 5 months in 2011/2012, i don't care) and 3 years of wedding-marriage in July, and it will be 4 years of real-marriage in November :) I love anniversaries!
I love that quote. And we're definitely the same brand of weird.
DeleteDon't think a breakup counts at all if you ended up back together. Especially together forever. I love that you two get an extra anniversary, wedding marriage + real marriage!
Very sweet! I met my husband through a mutual friend that I had actually been dating without enthusiasm. It was going nowhere and we weren't clicking. But his friend, though! We went out on a date in Seattle, although we both live in Santa Barbara. Six months later we moved in together...and last month we celebrated 26 years of marriage.
ReplyDelete26 years!? That's incredible & not an easy task.
DeleteYou guys are too cute! Happy Anniversary! I met Matt online too, and we've been together for over 3 years now.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle. Thank goodness for the Internet, right!?
DeleteHappy anniversary! You guys are the cuuuuteessssst. I cannot even. I met Alex at a house party at the house he was renting with my best friend (yes, she jokes that she lived with him before I did, ha!) on Memorial Day. Ryan was born on Memorial day 3 year later, so it's one of those things that just makes me really really happy.
ReplyDeleteI love the Memorial Day connection. That's so sweet.
DeleteYou guys are so stinkin' cute! Happy Anniversary!!!
ReplyDeleteJesse and I have been together for almost nine years now after meeting on Myspace - but you'd probably already know that from the blog! ;) I still don't know how people find our long distance love story interesting - but maybe it's because it's not a Catfish sitch :P
I do still find it fascinating. Like, just, of all the people on Myspace. That you two found each other, and even being so young convinced your parents it was a thing, and then in person it was just as good as it was online. I feel like so many times you could connect via words but when you're in person the chemistry just isn't the same.
DeleteAwww, how sweet! Happy anniversary! My husband and I met when I threw a snowball at his dorm room at Virginia Tech my freshman year, his sophomore. August 1st was our 35th wedding anniversary! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you two! What a sweet, unexpected way to meet your future husband.
DeleteJessie - I loved this! What a fun tribute to your BF!! He seems like a cool guy . . . Happy Anniversary!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! He's a keeper for sure. :) Maybe one day I'll even let him see this post.
