After a rainy day on Thursday the heat has finally calmed down some. Thank goodness. It was getting to be a little ridiculous. Heat dome? No thank you.
It's time for what usually is my favorite post of the week, my Friday Five. Where I share 5 random things from the week & usually some funnies. Here we go!
one // Ever hear a song & it takes you back...like way back? I was on Youtube the other day & all of a sudden this song from Good Charlotte starts playing & it was like being back in middle school. The song came out in 2002 and I vividly remember playing the CD on repeat - on my diskman. I also vividly remember having a crush on a tatted up band member & thinking I was way cool.
two // The pickle craze seriously continues. Pickled watermelon rinds. Pickle relish. & more dill spears, some spicy, some not. I picked 14 cucumbers last Sunday & by Monday night there were 16 more ready to pick.
three // Could. Not. Stop. Laughing.
four // I had every intention of writing a post for Wednesday & then I just didn't. I ended up working on about a million others, but just nothing I was ready to hit publish on. Shrugs. It happens. I'm certain you all missed me. But I did pull it together to post yesterday. If you missed it, I talked about more adulting woes & 10 more ways to fake it 'til you make it.
five // I told you all earlier in the summer that my younger brother was hiking the 2600 mile long Pacific Crest Trail this summer. Yes, all 2600 miles of it. Well, his birthday was last Friday (shame on me for not posting about it then...) & as a birthday present to himself he hiked extra hard in order to make it to Oregon!
Considering the first 1500-ish miles of the trail are all California, I dare say the man was excited to see a new state. He's hiking 30-ish miles a day, 'cause he's a man on a mission with a grown up job to start in the fall. Until then, any well wishes, prayers or good vibes you could send his way would be appreciated. He still has about 900 miles to hike. And I leave you with one more pic I snatched from him. Check out this sunset.
What's a song that takes you back to middle school?
What are your plans for the weekend?
Do you like pickles? What's your favorite kind?
I definitely have songs that take me back! Funnily enough, there are a few songs that I ALWAYS link with Jesse. Why? Because they were his myspace profile songs when we first started talking haha! oh those myspace days!
ReplyDeleteMAJOR props to your brother! What an awesome adventure!
Oh man, I vividly remember AGONIZING over what songs to put on my Myspace profile. So glad FB doesn't have that feature!
DeleteOh my gosh, what a way to celebrate a birthday! Hope the rest of your brother's journey goes well.
ReplyDeleteThanks! He's had some bumps & bruises along the way, but any journey that long is bound to!
DeleteHa, that instagram post is hilarious. And wow, so impressive that your brother is doing that hike! Have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI saw it & knew I had to share. It's a summary of how I feel pretty much daily about some things.
DeleteOh definitely go back in time when I hear certain songs!
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering how your brother has been doing on his hikes!
I wish I could post more about it, but even I don't know all the much new info often. He rarely turns his cell phone on. He has a GPS tracker, like life alert for hikers that sends us his coordinates each night, but other than that, I only get a call or a text every few weeks.
DeleteWow, I have a friend who is backpacking the PCT this year too! It looks just so amazingly, awesomely gorgeous. My sister and I have kind of have a goal to do something like that some day hopefully! All that pickling looks and sounds so good. I've never had pickled watermelon rind.
ReplyDeleteWonder if they have run into each other!? My brother is hiking pretty fast, but maybe they passed each other at some point. My brothers trail name is Diesel, if you get a chance to ask your friend!
DeleteHiking that trail would be the coolest thing ever! And oh gosh.. middle school. I was obsessed with Aaron Carter (the was maybe younger than middle school?). Choreographing dances to his songs was one of my favorite hobbies:) haha
ReplyDeleteI choreographed dances in my garage to an embarrassing number of S-Club 7 songs. Somehow I never got into Aaron Carter, though he was all sorts of popular when I was younger.
DeleteThank you for the update on your brother's amazing adventure!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way on applause for #4... I'll clap when I'm impressed...
A song that transports me to Middle school? Wow... middleschool was a long time ago... but Media Naranja by Fey, very popular in Mexico in 1995.
I immediately had to go listen to that song. While the verses didn't sound familiar the chorus did! Love hearing what other songs take people back in time!
DeleteI was just thinking the other day about how I wanted to can some pickles. Have you ever done a pickle brined chicken? I just heard of that recently but have never tried it.
ReplyDeleteI have not, I haven't heard of it either, is it just like using brine over top of the chicken & then cooking? Or using a brine more like a corned beef & soaking it for a few days? Sounds like it would make for some tender chicken.
Deleteooh I've not had pickled watermelon! That sounds delish. Have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteSo far, not so good. I think we messed something up along the way. The rinds got a very odd texture, almost like they were cooked too long.
DeleteLove that your brother is hiking the PCT - my boys have done some of the AT so I get what an accomplishment that is!! I made pickles once - they were gross! LOL! It was at a cannery and something went wrong . . . it'd be fun to try again! Songs totally take me back to places and moments in time . . . although I can't remember a specific middle school one - unless I heard it! Happy weekending!!
ReplyDeleteHe did the AT last year & loved it so much he's doing the PCT this year!
DeleteOh no, so far, it's been pretty easy, the recipes are fairly simple and have turned out rave reviews from all our friends!
That's so cool that your brother is completing such a long hike! I wish him well! Hmm...I'm a few years older than you, so my middle school days had a lot of Eminem, Will Smith, and TLC haha!
ReplyDeleteDon't remember the TLC & Will Smith so much, but Eminem was still going strong when I hit middle school!
Deletegood luck to your brother!
ReplyDeleteThanks Courtney! He texted last night and is doing well!
DeleteNew Found Glory came on during our last road trip. I pulled those lyrics out of some sort of lost portal in my brain! Hope you had a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAH, I love NFG. They came on my Pandora last night, flashback central, but I still know every word!
Deleteoh my gosh yes to a song taking you back. i used to love good charlotte. i saw the goo goo dolls on our honeymoon in.. er.. 2013? haha and i was obsessed with them in high school. i still like them and all, but i was crazy. anyway, they played a song that was - and still is - one of my absolute favourites, but i didn't think it was that popular that they would play it like 10 years later lol but they did, and i cried and i seriously felt like a 15 year old. it was insane and then it was like i woke up and was like oh.. i'm not in high school right now? it was so bizarre. KC just looked at me like wtf just happened.
ReplyDeleteaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. your brother is amazing! congrats to him and happy belated birthday to him.
