Are you ever just putzing through life thinking you've got it all under control & then all of a sudden BAM, time speeds up & you're forced into full on panic mode because you're now down to the wire. No? Just me? Okay, cool. Well, it was just the beginning of March & I was catching everyone up on our trip to New Zealand, and all of a sudden it's f-ing APRIL & I'm jetting off to Europe in 5 days.
So, my brain has felt like it's going to explode all week as I try to figure out all the things I need to get done before I go & when exactly I'm going to get them done. I've got lots to do this weekend, including some blitzing to get a work project done & turned in before I go. I would love to get one more thing off my metaphorical plate, so I'll be hunkered down with some wine on Saturday. I have to keep reminding myself I have to aim for good, not perfect. Good will still get me passed & certified. No sense panicking over perfection.
Anyways, you didn't come here for my long, rambling introduction, you came here for some Friday Five. I'm linking up with Mar, Cynthia & Courtney for their Fitness themed Friday Five.
As a runner it can be easy to get in a rut. I love to cross-train, so I try to add variety in that regard, rather than veering off course with my planned running workouts.
Below I've included 5 of my favorite cross training workouts, sure to cover whatever mood you're in.
Spin Class w/ Playlist from Your Trainer Paige
I don't 100% love all the songs, but it's a great resource if you can't make it to an instructor led class at your gym. Make the playlist on Spotify & get to it!
Hotel Workout from Run Eat Repeat
I don't travel for work on the regular, but when I do I'm also eating every meal out with colleagues and I need to get my heart pumping. This is a great one if your hotel doesn't have a gym or you only have a few minutes each day to spare.
Swim Interval Workout from Love Life Surf
Training for a triathlon? Or just want to hop in the pool? This is definitely something different. It gives my legs a rest from pounding the pavement & really makes my shoulders // arms work for the day.
Basic Barbell Guide from Popsugar
I love lifting weights, but sometimes I just want something simple. I want to be able to grab a piece or two of equipment & head over to a corner & just zone out & get 'er done. This is that workout.
Lazy Girl Workout from Trimmed & Toned
The Lazy Girl workout is also known as the UGH I really SHOULD do something workout. For when you already had that piece of cake & skipped the gym this morning but are feeling guilty about it. Pop on your show & do this during each ad break. You can keep watching as long as you're willing to keep working!
What's your go-to when you need a break from running?
Do you travel often for work?
Do you make it a point to be active while you're watching television?

Lots of good info here! When I need a break from running (or am forced to, like now) I do a ton of cycling. I've also started pool running, which is turning out to be a game changer for me.
ReplyDeleteI used to travel all the time for work but now I don't and it has been a nice change being home. I do a body pump class at gym with the barbell. It's a great strength training workout when I don't run on that day.-L
ReplyDeleteWow, I love all the variety here. Maybe I should do one today!!! HAPPY Friday! God is GOOD!
ReplyDeleteI love the Lazy Girl workout - I really was on a kick there for awhile trying to work out while watching TV - like every commerical, I'd do something. I need to use this chart as a kick start to that again.
ReplyDeleteI love the Fitnessistas' workouts! I love using the Nike Training Club app. I've done them at home or at hotels while traveling and they're quick and usually leave me sooo sore (which I suppose is good haha).
ReplyDeleteI love Fitnessista. She always has awesome workouts! And the variety of the rest is pretty great!
ReplyDeleteSome really great options no matter where you are!!
