What's New With You : January - May

I love using this blog as a space I can document my life. Yes, I love sharing little recipes, or tips, but, I love being able to look back & see what I was up to. I did a recap post last December about what was up in 2015, but, I don't want to get to December again before I try to remember everything great from the year.

So I'm linking up with  Kristen x Gretchen x Amanda to share "What's New".

{January}
January started off with a bang as I crossed "Complete a Polar Bear Plunge" off my 30 before 30. & banged up my knee enough to leave a scar.

And held lots of cold weather hiking.

{February}

February celebrated 2 years since this big "bully" came home with us. Isn't he just ferocious!?

And...NEW ZEALAND! Need I say more? It was pretty much the best. You can read recaps here : Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 & Part 4.

{March}

March held a weekend trip to Michigan to see an old friend.

Racing a 5K & turning 26!

{April}

April held snow, like, WTF?
But the BF & I braved it to go hiking anyways!

Then I jetted off to Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro & Venice! & I didn't forget that I still owe y'all some recaps! But I've got a few posted you can find here : Venice, Slovenia Part 1 & Part 2.

{May}
 May held half marathon #8 & 2nd place in my age group @ a local 5K (recap here)

And a 3 day // 2 night backpacking trip a few hours NE of Pittsburgh.

And finally...a 3 day weekend back to KY & a trip to the Indianapolis 500 with my Dad! It's a family tradition.

So, hey, June, let's bring it on. Bring on the weddings, the hiking, the grill-outs, the long days & the humidity.

 What are you most excited for in June?
Tell me about the best part of your 2016 so far?
What's your favorite part of summer?

  2. oh my goodness, you've been busy this year! the polar bear thingy looks interesting, but ouch your knee! i've never been to the indy 500 but maybe one day :) hmm the best thing in 2016 so far... i honestly don't know! lots of things. i am going on a cruise in 2 weeks so obviously i am excited for that. my favourite part of summer is the overwhelming oppressive heat, and the humidity. you know when your car has been sitting outside all day and you get in it and feel like you can't breathe? i love that. hahaha. and no, not joking haha.

  3. Wow, that's so cool that you got 2nd in your age group in the half marathon! :)) How often do you travel? I love that you went to all of those Eastern European countries and a few Western ones. Your dog is adorable. I love those kinds of innocent puppy looks.

    1. How often to I travel...well, it really just depends, it seems to happen none at all, or all at once. Like, as you can see, this year I've already traveled a ton, with more to come. Next year will probably calm down some.

  4. I did a polar bear plunge years ago which was big for me - I am a total wimp with cold water. I'd love to do it again though for the exhileration aspect. You've had quite the year of traveling and adventures!

    1. OMG the water was so cold! Like, mind-blowingly cold. I think that may have been a one & done for me.

  5. Wow, you have had a really busy year! I've always thought of hiking as a warm weather activity but that's pretty cool that you kept it going in the Winter.

    1. I actually love winter hiking. It's so peaceful & so easy to spot animal tracks. Plus, you usually have the woods to yourself.

  6. You've had such an awesome, active year! I agree with you, I like using the blog to document my life too. Although 5 months have passed and I think I've only done 3 official monthly recap posts. Oops! Haha.

    My highlight of the year SO FAR was probably the Pittsburgh Marathon. Not only because, hey I ran a marathon, but because the experience changed me in ways I didn't anticipate and has forced me to grow.

    So looking forward to camping this summer! After scouring the internet for a few hours I finally found two openings at state parks we haven't been to yet and I booked those puppies up. I can't wait! Not one, but TWO camping trips to look forward to! And, while I'm enjoying my training break, I am excited to start 10K training and racing in a couple months. Yay new stuff!

    1. So, I definitely had to go back & re-read some of my posts to remember all the great stuff I had done, which just proves once again why I'm writing it all down.

      2 camping trips is awesome! Especially since it's places you've never been! And I know how fast those campground openings fill up.

  10. I was looking out for your Pgh HM race recap and never saw it so thought you never posted one. Doh! Just read it. It was a tough day out there for many. I think it's a huge accomplishment to not hit your goals and not beat yourself up. I'm still learning how to do that. So congrats!

  13. I love how much you've traveled so far this year! I totally crept all your New Zealand posts a few weeks ago and it made me want to go there:) There hasn't been 1 major highlight of 2016 so far, just a lot of little weekend trips away, races, and random things with friends and family!
