Friday Five #22

Happy Friday!

Do any other bloggers out there constantly end up confused about what day it is because you write posts in advance? Like I was all excited that yesterday was Friday, womp womp womp. It wasn't. I usually craft my Friday Five posts throughout the week as things happen that I know I want to share with y'all. But, it mostly just leaves me confused about what day it is.

Before I get started, if you missed my summer bucket list yesterday, don't forget to check it out here!
And now, let's jump on in.

{one}
I took the plunge & ordered a FitBit Charge through my work rewards website. We can be gifted points if someone feels we go above & beyond. I didn't realize I had any...but I must have had some left over from last time I ordered something. There is a HUGE catalog online. Designer purses, sporting event tickets, Garmin watches, gift cards, I never know what to choose. Do I reward myself & get something FUN? Or do I save myself $$$ & buy something I know I NEED?

My new FitBit shipped on Wednesday so I'm hoping it'll be here soon! As we all know, steps don't count if your FitBit doesn't track them. ;)

Despite having a HUGE cookout last weekend, which I bought all the groceries for...I bought only a handful of groceries for me for the week. That makes two weeks in a row that I haven't grocery shopped. So things are getting weird. I've been digging into the dark, cold depths of my freezer. And grocery shopping is at the top of my list of plans for after work today.

Thursday evening I made avocado egg salad. Mixed in some feta, used it to top toast. DELICIOUS. Scarfed it all down. Was going to make some more. Until I saw the date on my egg carton. February 28th. Now, I'm not necessarily a stickler for best by dates...but, that seemed a bit much to me. Would you eat the eggs? I mean, I ate 3 & I haven't died yet...

And, today's funny...

Buzzfeed
And finally...me @ 5PM today when I waltz out those doors for the weekend. :)
See y'all back here on Monday.

What are you up to this weekend?
Who's got a FitBit?! - wanna be friends?
Would you eat eggs with a February 28th carton date?

  1. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about the new fitbit! I've got a different brand and love it, however, it lacks some features I'd like to have (like a built in HRM! I was sent the TomTom fitness watch to review but I HATED it because it was stupidly inaccurate - thus it never made the blog :P)

As for the eggs - pop them in a glass of water. If they float, chuck them... if they sink, you're good to eat :P

    1. They floated. Obviously I'll pitch them. But what a fantastic trick! Also, like I ate bad eggs. Do I die? I know, I'm being a drama queen.

  2. Oh my gosh - I gasped at the date on the eggs. BUTTTTT I've always heard that eggs are better for WAY longer then the date says. But as soon as I hit the date on the carton, I'm doing the water test. Glad you didn't get sick!

I've totally got to try the egg thing with avacado - I guess its what I eat with it laid on top, but more of a mixed up version - which could give me more avocado! Mmmmmmmmm!!!!!

I cant wait to hear how you like that FitBit - I gotta get a new tracker soon (mine are all dying) & I'm not sure whether to get another FitBit or a Garmin. SO MANY CHOICES!!!!

    1. Haha, so I usually don't worry with eggs for about a month after the carton date. I usually "age" my eggs a week or two anyways if I know I will hardboil them. I've found the shell comes off easier.

It was so good, I used 1 avocado, 2 eggs, an ounce or so of feta + pepper, garlic salt & some diced jalapeno 'cause I like spice!

  3. Girl, YES to #3 and #5 in particular. Yes, Yes, Yes. My weekend consists of a WHOLE day off tomorrow from both jobs PLUS my roommate/sister won't be home so free range of the apartment! Which probably means I'll nap all day! ;) Sunday I work at the gym, but I'm sure it'll still be a good day. It's supposed to be SO nice out. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Hope you enjoy your for it. I just bought a Garmin vico and really like it. Avocado egg salad, never had it but I'd like to try it. I think you are good having the eggs if you haven't got sick yet.

    1. It's so good & such a good substitute for mayo which I never have. Plus, who doesn't love avocado!?

  5. The avocado egg salad sounds delicious! I've never tried combining the two. But I'm super cautions with sell by dates. I think my limit is a week past the sell by date. I hope you love the fitbit! Mine broke and my replacement is supposed to be arriving today :) I've been waiting for it impatiently. I totally feel like my steps don't count if they're not being tracked :)

    1. I'm usually pretty careful too, especially with milk. Gross. But, eggs and yogurt are the one thing I am pretty lax with.

Hope your replacement gets there soon. I remember freaking out when my first FitBit broke. It was so sad.

  6. I have a fit bit and like it but am not obsessed by it. I use it as a reminder to stay active. I hardly ever make it to 10 000 steps.. only on days I run. The egg ? I wouldn't have eaten it but hey, you're not sick yet....
I am definitely going to make your avocado recipe. With fresher eggs though.
    Have a great weekend !

    1. I'm hoping I don't become obsessed. I had a FitBit before and was totally obsessed with all the data.

Haha yes, do as I say, not as I do.

  7. I love work rewards! My husband used to get them (they called them safety points) and we used to just use them for fun things since they were basically free money.

I am probably the only one here that's like, ehh, you'll be fine. I'm super lax about expiration dates (unlike my neurotic husband who won't eat things a few days BEFORE the sell by. Plus, eggs las WAY longer than the package says. A lot of the expiration dates (which are actually usualyl best by or sell by dates! Sell by means the store is required by law to sell or give them away by that date. They are still good weeks later, usually depending on the product) are mandated by the government and are pretty outdated since transportation and storage has improved rapidly.

BUT here's what I do. First and foremost is the float test. This usually just tells you how old they are, but it's a good baseline. If they float all the way to the top quickly, I usually chuck 'em. BUT that just tells you how much the egg has shrunk/how bug the air pocket is now. If they kind of go towards the middle, I'll go for it. TBH I usually just go with the stink test...

    1. I usually let eggs go for a week or two no problem...but I figure 3 months MIIIIGHT be a bit much.

Those suckers bobbed straight to the top. Oops. Haha. Didn't know it just told you about the air pocket. but that makes a lot of sense. They definitely didn't stink. And I'm also not dead yet. So, I think I'm gonna be okay. ;)

  10. I have a Fitbit Charge too and I love it! Let's be friends on it! Haha. I'm weird and like never take it off. Even if I'm wearing a nice-ish outfit and it looks out of place.. I don't want my steps to not count ya know!?

  11. I actually really love when I can whip up a meal with the food I already have in the depths of my freezer and in my pantry!!! I mean, USE what you have before getting more stuff, right?! HA HA! I literally have nothing but drinks in my fridge... And meat/fish in my freezer, that's it! lol! I have to get creative!

  12. Yay for scoring that Fitbit! It's awesome that your work does that for you all. And your egg story made me laugh, because my friend once baked us some cookies with expired eggs in law school.lol We're all still here:)

By the way, I co-host a weekly Friday linkup called High Five for Friday. I'd love it if you'd stop by and link up with us next week!

  13. oh my lord, my mouth dropped at the date on the eggs. i can't handle eating or drinking anything past the date, no matter what. i try and avoid looking at dates at all, because logically i know some things are better longer than the date (and it depends on use by or best before) and just go by taste/smell or whatever, but once i see the date, it smells, looks and tastes bad. does that make sense?
yay for a fitbit charge! i just got one recently, we should be friends!
